  • Thank you for SI 2026 <3

At the end of June, we held our 2026 CPE Summer Institute: Challenging Capitalism in Troubled Times and Building Collective Futures. We’ve been left with gratitude, solidarity and renewed enthusiasm for change thanks to all the people who made this wonderful event happen: nearly 40 participants who came from as far as Puerto Rico to Quebec, our CPE facilitator team, and all the Hampshire College staff that helped us pull this off.

This year’s SI took place in an especially unique environment, with the impending closure of Hampshire College casting doubt on the ability to use this beautiful space to convene and build solidarity in the future. Supported by participants who were Hampshire alumni, Hampshire Next, and other groups convening at Hampshire, we took time to apply our learnings to the concrete situation at hand: how could Hampshire College be transformed to maintain democratic, radical forms of education long into the future?

If you’d like us to hold a workshop for your organization that helps participants understand our economic system and use that knowledge to transform the world around them, please get in touch with us.

A look back at Summer Institute 2025

In July 2025, CPE hosted over 35 activists from across the country at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA for our Summer Institute.

CPE’s Staff Economists led a four-day workshop in radical economics that covered the history of global capitalism; economics of racism and patriarchy; colonialism and imperialism; and alternative economic systems. It applied CPE’s unique pedagogical approach which involves co-producing the learning experience, inviting participants to connect the concepts discussed to their practical experience to build new knowledge together.
